Smile again and feel confident

If you have missing teeth you will know that, among other problems, it can make you feel self-conscious and eating can be difficult, sometimes painful and often restricted. Long-term gaps result in bone loss, leading to other dental issues such as moving teeth and altered bite.

At Smile Matters we help our patients overcome these problems and live life to the fullest without compromising on the enjoyment of eating and freedom of laughing and smiling.

Many suitable patients say, with hindsight, that the decision to go for implants rather than a conventional bridge or denture was one of the best decisions they have made.

Did you know that multiple missing teeth can be restored using implant technology for much less than you might think? Implants can be used to create anchors for bridges and dentures. This avoids the use of existing teeth and results in a secure and trouble free treatment. The inconvenience and insecurity of dentures coming loose, of bridges debonding from supporting teeth is completely removed. The benefits are myriad; boost in confidence; freedom when dining; wider choice of foods so less worry and easier maintenance of oral health.

What are the options for implant tooth replacement?

Single Tooth Replacement:

A single missing tooth can be replaced by a single implant which supports a crown. This mimics the ‘root and enamel top’ of a natural tooth. After placement, the jaw bone will bind the implant (osse-integrate) so that, within 4-5 months, the implant will be solidly a part of the jaw. Once this healing is achieved, an abutment is placed within the implant and a crown is fixed to this abutment. Taking into account possible future requirements, the fixing is reversible and the crown could be removed and replaced should that become necessary. The end result is often indistinguishable from a natural tooth.

Multiple Teeth Replacement:

As the diagram illustrates, a larger gap, perhaps due to multiple missing teeth or irregular spacing, can be spanned by using implants as foundation supports for a bridge unit. The bridge units can be any number of teeth, including the whole arch - this is then basically a full denture retained by 4 - 6 implants.
